Climate engineering operations are the single most environmentally destructive factor we face short of nuclear cataclysm. What will happen when climate engineering is ultimately brought to a halt? The deeply ingrained normalcy bias that is so prevalent in societies, is beginning to break down. Will manufactured and orchestrated scenarios continue to control the attention of the majority? The latest installment of Global Alert News is below.

No matter how monumental the challenges we face, we can’t know what difference we may yet make unless or until we apply ourselves fully to the task of turning the tide. All are needed in the critical battle to wake populations to what is coming, we must make every day count. Dane can you please inform uson your thoughts of the flooding in China right now. There's virtually nothing in mainstream media

    • Dane Wigington says:

Hello, Tim, yes, you are correct, the corporate media weapon of mass distraction is silent about countless weather disasters unfolding around the world. It is not just the flooding in China, but also parts of Australia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Yemen, etc. I will cover as much as I can on my next weekly broadcast.

While it's not expected to become a hurricane, Tropical Storm Nine is on track to cross over the entire state of Florida starting on August 1. Are they practicing their skills in steering this weather system to where they want it to go? Right now this storm is located west of Guadeloupe.

Dane cannot do this. job all by himself.  He needs our help as well.   Perhaps we can  help him with the Programs….the Flyers…and the  new Movie he is producing.    That is quite a bit for one man.    I  really doubt if Dane will continue to preach to un receptive ears ; for much longer.    An accurate analysis of Christ's mission to spread His " Father's"  Word by the Original " Apostolic"  Orthodox Christian Scholars pointed out that  our "Savior"  did not waste " His" time repeating Himself.  He spread the Word and  then quickly moved on ; even  If He did not get any followers.   The  Followers who helped Him out were the Apostles.  Not too many of them tho.  See the Donate section of his website.  Thanks

Here in Tennessee I've had some success with letters to the editors. There are 3 local newspapers. I've touched on a variety of topics. It hasn't been easy by any means.  My letter on Geoengineering never got published. It took 2 years for something on the 9-11 false flag to get published. That's their right. It's their newspaper. However, I haven't quit.  I know newspaper reading is declining but one letter can reach many. The challenge is to get the editor to publish something contrary to the official narrative without watering down the message. I have had 2 articles published challenging people to investigate the Covid – 19 plandemic.  What has worked for me may or may not work for you. However, you may want to give try a letter to the editor!

Forgive this comment for veering off thread, but it has been of some concern of mine that many long-time contributors to this excellent and informative site have 'been missing in action' so to speak.

I miss "hearing" from so many old-timers who always had so much knowledge to pass on to us – no matter what topic was actually discussed – and beyond that I hope that you are all well and safe, wherever you may be.

We can all admit that this site is unique in that those who comment are ardent believers and remain so in spite of so many challenges that lie before us.  It stems from the leadership of Dane and the tons of information one can click onto on these pages. Reading and listening to his presentations and the reactions expressed here really enlightens us as to the pulse of the people and helps us maintain our equilibrium in these troubled times.

To  Paul Vanharnish (miss you), Dennie, Simple Horseman, Bane B, Bella Fantasia, Irene Parousis, Blue Sue, Pedro, Marc, Mario, Yar Swerc, Earth Angel I just want to say that I hope you are all in good health and doing well.  There are many more of you whose names escape me at the present time.  But it would be so good to hear from you and to read your thoughts on the "present condition" of our world.

Hopefully, I did not offend anyone by this post.  If I did, I apologize.

Good health and safety to all and may the coming months bring an end to this unending nightmare that is being perpetrated upon us all.

    Virginia

    • RandylJ says:

Hello Dane and Virginia and Everyone ~ Randyl J here – in the Piedmont of North Carolina. I haven't posted in awhile as nothing here has changed. This month has seen an increase in spraying on clear days, after brief periods of sun that scorches if you stay outside very long. Today central North Carolina resembles a day at the ocean with total fog-like cloud cover. I'm sorry I forgot the correct description for that, however we have frequent 'white-gray' skies and humongous thunderheads that form after clear sky days. I've captured several jets on my phone camera and trails. They continue to be busy although I hear less at night. I do not feel the spraying activity has ceased in any way. My concern is that they are setting up patterns to create specific storm scenarios. I also feel they may be setting up conditions later in the fall for an extremely cold winter along the Eastern US. The ants are acting odd. I have been invaded in my home-on-wheels with very large carpenter ants. I try to spray Peppermint oil mixed with water in places where they are scene. There are lots of spiders. However, the tree leaves have been turning gold and brown for many weeks. My little dog continues to suffer allergies from the wet grasses. As Dane says always, "There is NO Natural Sky nor Weather" any more.

I hope all are well and safe holding your Highest Most Positive Inner Selves close, so you may KOKO (Keep On Keeping On) and helping others. There is much peace in quiet times and helping where you can.

Nice thoughtful post Virginia.  Well stated!  I am a rare contributor, but believe you me, I faithfully  follow every GAN.  I also follow Blog responders.  The question is- how do we respond to the mandate to lead salvation's battle (as in salvage what we can, "with every fiber of our being." DW)

So, I want to thank Dane for the alert on outstanding Robert Kennedy jr debate with Alan Dershowitz & American Moon doc.;  bloggers brought up the Talmud & Freedman speech, Frankfurt group etc.  Ammunition to energize salvation's battle and break the ice to converse with those who surround you.  To those old timers active or recuperating (nature rejuvenates), Hold to your post, keep us posted!

    • virginia says:

Hi to Randy and Robin –  Thank you so much for punching in and letting us know how you are!!!   Both of your posts are as interesting and educational, as always.  These sad times in our country and the fear that so many people have, understandably, need as many voices as possible to ensure them that we are all aware and are all working for a common goal – to save our natural ways of life from the crimes being perpetrated upon us.  It will take all of us, you, Randy, and you, Robin, and V. S. Ferguson who never fails us, and Irene, and all those who are posting to accomplish this. A few encouraging words here and there mean much to bolster our morale.   And, I would be remiss in not mentioning the maestro who leads us in concert: Dane.

Thanks to all of you. It made my day to hear from you…let us not forget to keep tuning in.  Blessings and good health and safety to all.

    • Earth Angel says:

Thank you virginia for remembering me in your comments. I also visit this site frequently and am still fervently passing on what I understand to be pertinent information learned here (and from a few other places) about the precarious state of our planet at every opportunity I can find! Who knew things could get this weird in our lifetimes? Despite the 'head spinning' situations and news we hear about- or see- every day I am striving to keep sane and remain 'on course' to bring about positive change for all that I can while I am here. So far have remained surprisingly healthy in spite of the ALL OUT assaults we are all under from the toxic air raids everything experiences daily. We are still lovingly tending to our small farm, our animals, and the wildlife that it sustains. Interestingly the same week that Dane was rescuing frogs and relocating them to a safer place I too was saving some tadpoles that were left in a large rubbermaid livestock watering tub which had little water left in it that was very hot from the sun's unrelenting rays. In another day or two it would likely have dried up with them so I fetched a 5 gallon water bucket and tipped the 100 gal. tub on it's end and poured them into it as best I could- carefully picking through the dirt picking up all that spilled aside, not wanting to miss even one, and ferried them to a larger pond on the property where there are many frogs from which sing to us each night. I chuckled at my 'no tadpole left behind' program. Thanks to these small ponds and streams we have been graced by many visits from a pair of Blue Herons, and today by a pair of White Egrets and one of the Herons, who came to feed on the frogs and small fish inhabitants. We also have Red Shouldered Hawks who visit regularly and a few deer who we see once in awhile. So we are doing our best to enjoy God's beauty and bounty despite the evil we are witnessing happening all around us; to assist nature in every way we can, and to alert any fellow human beings receptive to the true state of our collective plight in the hope we can make some difference for the better. Grateful for you ALL and of course, for Dane's devoted INCREDIBLE work and information that he brings to us each week. May God bless us all.

Greetings to all from SW Idaho: Thank you Virginia for asking if some of us old coots are okay. I’m one of the feisty, scrappy oldsters who haven’t chimed in for quite a while, but I’m alive and kicking, so far.  And, I’m here every week, listening intently to the GAN.  I feel all the pain and frustration in which Dane and y’all express so intensely.  I pray, every day, a switch will be flipped on in the psyche of the masses, and that they will realize their silence is only securing our collective extinction.

I stopped commenting because I didn’t think I had anything beneficial to add. Also, I think the current state of affairs has many of us distracted by the fallout from the PLANDEMIC.  This crap is taking an awful toll on a lot of innocent people – my sister included, bless her sweet soul.

Even though things seem bleak, I see a lot of good people out there trying to convey the truth – even with a “full nelson” choke-hold of censorship around their necks.  I salute every one of them – including you Dane. You all inspire me to stay the course and fight back against the controllers of the evil empire.  We cannot give up or give in.  We must face the enemy with our thickest armor and fight to the death, if necessary.  I’m getting old and the sacrifice would be my honor in the name of saving the earth for our children, wild life and the biosphere.

May all of you be blessed with good health and moxie!

Earth Angel and Idaho Annie:   Hello and Love to you both for writing such beautiful and heartwarming posts today, and as you always did in years past.  I remember you both vividly from your descriptions of the lives you were leading which so paralleled mine.  Like you, Earth Angel (what an appropriate name).  I, too live on a small farm ( in Shasta Co, California) and so identify with your description of saving those tiny little tadpoles.  No matter how little these creatures are, they are all entitled to their lives.  Your actions remind me of the philosophy  of Dr. Albert Schweitzer and his "Reverence For Life".  You are lucky to still have frogs in your pond that serenade you.  I don't have any left (tree frogs) – all disappeared some years ago.  No birds (save crows and jays), not even an annoying insect to be found.  It is a feeling of emptiness not to see or to hear these examples of wildlife that are almost gone for good  in so many places.  Beyond sad.  And Idaho Annie, love that moniker, Annie—you are not an old dodger…if you knew my age, you would consider yourself a teenager!!!  Fighting these games being thrown at us takes fighters of all ages…you and I included.  Feisty, say what we think and fight to the last.  These darn masks for one.   I am glad that Walmart (whom I have boycotted and will continue to do so) has finally relented a little and allowing us to shop without one.  Still won't go in stores.  But, I am so happy to hear from you, as well, and that you are in good health and still giving everyone hell.  Please continue to give us your comments and your encouragement.  We all need it for what may be coming down the pike.

Earth Angel and Idaho Annie – two of my favorites.  Thank you so much.  Keep well and safe.  I think living the simple life is the key to happiness.  Appreciating and preserving our world and the wonders it gives us is of the highest calling.  Blessings to you both and your families.  Thank you.

The great majority of the American public are  blind to the evidence of Geo engineering Activities right above their heads.  They are also woefully ignorant  ; and Blind to the  current "Repeat" of that past  enslavement of the Russian people which took place back in the early 1900s ; which is really  happening here.   The Bolshevik Takeover of Russia was actually engineered by Russian citizens who had a loyalty to a Code  outlined in a book called the Talmud which encouraged  activities inimical to their own citizenship and loyalty to  Russia.     In our Country today we are observing similar activities by Elected and Appointed Officials ; along with a portion of our population which was either bought off ; or too dull witted to understand the consequences of their actions.   This   "revolutionary"  activity  can be traced to  this "Chosen Group " who follow an instruction book called the Talmud.   Many of our elected and appointed Officials currently hold dual citizenship in a Foreign country.  Which country do they really serve ?.  Please take some time to study the origins of the past  destruction of Russia.   Look today to the influence of a Group called the " Frankfurt Group" ; supposedly refugees from Germany in the forties who now dominate Academia.  The evidence  of who they are ; and what they are planning is not hard to unearth.  Recent ; contradictory and ludicrous mandates by simple minded politicians ; following orders from this Group is evidence of a plan to disrupt the entire Country.  Help Dane fight back by donating to his Website.   Dane's  Printed material ….His  Broadcasts ; as well as his current production of a new Film  about the dangers we face all cost money.  The least we can do is donate as much as possible ; to help wake people up to the dangers heading our way.   A book { on Amazon } " Facts are Facts" may  increase our knowledge of  what has befallen us.

    • Virginia says:

Hi, Francis:   So many thanks for your very enlightening post and for the book references – which, in my humble opinion, are among the best, if one has the desire to understand the "present condition" of America.  Facts are Facts by Freedman is an excellent source and has been mentioned on this site previously.

It is a sad commentary that, as you state, the majority of Americans do not have the knowledge (nor the interest) to equate the Russian Revolution instigated, financed and controlled by * Bolsheviks for the overthrow of the Christian Czarist Russia and the murder and/or imprisonment and torture of millions (it is stated that there were approximately 88 million Russians or White Russians as the they are sometimes referred to) of innocent Russian  people. Those same Bolsheviks and their 'backers and planners' are behind the present day upheaval and turmoil taking place in America right now, today, and for the same purposes and goals.  Francis, you stated it very clearly and it will be up to the American people to stand up to these malignant forces if we are to win our country back.

The control of weather, of the forces that can cause hurricanes and floods (China, today?) and other destructive phenomena are part of the entire scheme of these people to destroy our way of life, our survival and our future.  It all boils down to how much we will take without fighting to preserve our world and our country.  Stand up and be counted – or take the fall.   That simple.

Once more, thank you, Francis, for your great post.  I intend to look into the Frankfurt Group, as you suggest.

And thanks for reminding us to donate to this site, no matter how little it may be (times are tough for so many of us).  It will all help.

Peace for our World – there is no alternative.

    • Michel B says:

When this 'group' talks of Peace, they are referrring to the conditions that follow war. One has to keep in mind the Orwellian use of terms. By referring to 'peace', they are firstly lying to the public who wish for the real peace to be meant, but this group know there is a double meaning to the word use. For them, 'peace' means the conditions that they seek when they achieve their goals, whether it is through war, false flags, subterfuge, miseducation (falsification of history), influence through control of media, control of the scientific, educational, governmental and military institutions. Basically they have taken over all of the 'power centres' of society. This very small group have clear goals, complete ambition and the ruthlessness to carry it all out, as they are and have been for some time now.

Dane, thanks for your latest update.

Your courage and unwavering commitment to this all-important cause is greatly appreciated. So few are prepared to speak of these uncomfortable truths and an even greater number don't want to listen, or so it seems. But that cowardly choice will be taken away soon, because as you suggest, I think Gaia will step in and force people to see the truth. What that will mean for the human race remains to be seen. Will we be treated like another virus?

I am seeing to much despair. Do not despair, prepare. I follow homesteaders/preppers/survival sites and environmental ones. All are saying food shortages again and to grow a garden. Learn a few things to prep and share with others. Even for just plain disaster preparedness which we are all supposed to do. It is easy to give people a reason when you all know why we are trying to help them. It is empowering to learn, help yourself and others too. Band together, exchange notes, with a mask and six foot apart. Too late to start a garden show someone, ourself included how to grow sprouts, forage and my favorite grow food scraps, many will root and provide food in two weeks. Tell people to reuse clean foodgrade jugs stow some water and let some dry and put rice, beans in them. There are also food stretching ideas out there too. Simple DIYs. It helps to busy yourself and help others. help everyone to stand on their own two feet. Check out a group called local futures. There are greener pastures beyond "our little friends". I look forward to shedding the "problem". Small businesses sourcing and selling locally, quality handmade. Like I say check out local futures. I know from the Green Festival what can be done and other groups. I have seen greener pastures with my own eyes. …Oh, yes WE CAN… 🙂

Hi, Jeanette:  With all due respect, your ending of "Oh, yes WE CAN."—To the contrary, we will not be able to if we follow your advice (as stated in your post) to "wear a mask and 6 foot apart."  To willingly, unquestionably follow the edicts of those perpetuating this virus hoax precludes one from gaining freedom of movement and of life itself as we once knew it.  Personally, I will not comply, will not submit to their mind control tactics, will not become a part of the brain-dead zombies walking around with useless and harmful pieces of rags covering their breathing apparatus.    We have a choice.  We live under a Constitution and Bill of Rights.  Either we defend them or lose them.

      Thanks, Jeanette and good wishes.

My husband has never got sunburned iin his life, no matter how many hours out in the hottest southeast temperatures. One month ago, he laid down outside here in the Pacific Northwest when the temp was only 70 degrees (despite multiple warnings from me not to do this). He says he never felt hot or like he was burning. But when he came back in his skin was glowing red, I  kid you not. He immediately took a long cold shower. We've treated it every day several times a day with diluted vinegar and cool showers. Thankfully he did not get sun poisoning and miraculously no blistering. But he was is severe pain. 4 weeks later, the redness has calmed down but not gone away. And it still hurts. I've never seen a sunburn last this long. Please everyone be careful.

The wristband attaches to an App. With this you can pay for goods too. But does the government get a copy and what happens to the data and the DNA? They don't tell you that. My advice is to stay clear of the DNA Nudge which is being trialed at major hospitals in the London area first.

Methane Leak in Antarctic Sea Floor Prompts Fears of Climate Tipping Points / July 24, 2020
Methane is a far more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

Scientists have identified the first active leak of methane gas in the seafloor of Antarctica, according to research published in the scientific journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
The cause of the leak is unclear, but scientists have so far ruled out climate change because the Ross Sea, where the leak is located, has been relatively shielded from warming temperatures, the Guardian reports.
The leak was worsened by the relative absence of microbes that would normally filter the methane before it enters the atmosphere, which allowed far more of the gas to be released.
“The delay [in methane consumption] is the most important finding,” Andrew Thurber, from Oregon State University in the US, who led the research, told the Guardian. “It is not good news. It took more than five years for the microbes to begin to show up and even then there was still methane rapidly escaping from the sea floor.”

Global report into plastic threats to the ocean
    phys.org

A world-renowned expert in plastic pollution from the University of Plymouth has contributed to a major new report showing that without immediate and sustained action, the annual flow of plastic into the ocean could nearly triple by 2040.

… The research found that if no action is taken to address the projected growth in plastic production and consumption, the amount of plastic entering the ocean each year would grow from 11 million metric tons to 29 million metric tons over the next 20 years. That is equivalent to nearly 50kg of plastic on each metre of coastline worldwide.
Because plastic remains in the ocean for hundreds of years and may never truly biodegrade, the cumulative amount of plastic in the ocean by 2040 could reach 600 million tons.
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented additional challenges in the fight to end ocean-bound plastic pollution, as single-use plastic consumption has increased during the pandemic, according to the International Solid Waste Association.

      dear brent

      very funny joke

but shame it represents the truth about most humans

i feel corruption of humans has gone way beyond anything we can do to halt it, which is why it feels right to me that we are in the end game

sorry all you optimists out there but we just have to keep doing what is right until the very end – we have no choice – but am still meeting people who will lap up any information that allows them to understand what is going on – in all its geoengineering glory – more people have switched on with the lock down here in uk

seems it has given them time to take a breath and they are shocked at what is going on around them – now they have time to look – and to look up

but some – well what can i say – you see the smile on there face as i know they are going – crazy ol' woman – well, no sink plunger lips, no body on show – no tattooed eybrows – no big bum – and an appreciation of the environment i all its jungle glory

love to all the ones who care and are aware

US mayors show they’re on board with the destruction of their cities. This makes them accomplices of insurgency / Wayne Dupree

… Every time I watch these videos, it makes me wonder. How does burning buildings, looting businesses and flat out killing people in some cases, further your cause? Racism? These protesters are literally defining and further cementing old stereotypes from years past. Who’s running this show? What’s their end game? If you want the absolute majority of Americans who AREN’T rioting to hate you and whatever the heck your cause is, then just carry on.
… To be legal, a group must apply for a permit for a group protest and have their march or group meeting accordingly. They may not merely form a group and march wherever they want. They are certainly not allowed to march into streets and disrupt traffic unless their permit specifically allows it. Martin Luther King always obeyed these permit restrictions. None of the protests by these liberal anarchists are legal or protected by the Constitution.
The city officials are posturing to give the impression they are all for the destruction of their own cities because it is the best policy for them, but even they should be able to tell the difference between peaceful protest and out and out anarchy. I hope no federal funds come to these cities when it’s time to rebuild from these riots. If the mayors are too self-centered to work with the government they dislike, the government should not haul them back from financial responsibilities that are theirs alone. Get a GoFundPortland going and see how much you raise from the people you are now bowing down to.
This is not going to end well. I am sick to death of the attitude that people can attack police or federal agents, and they should just take it. That means no one is safe anymore.
It is time that mayors either believe in enforcing laws and protecting life and property – or get the heck out. But I fear it’s too late for either.

Most protesters are peaceful.    We do not know who the rioters are.  Alot of the time the police create the riot by getting overly aggressive.      Our foreign policy which is not pretty w support of dictators for many decades is  where people get picked up in unmarked cars and they disappear you.   I see this has what is   happening in Portland Oregon and possibly other cities as a possible test run for martial law.  During the Vietnam war which I protested in the 60s  and 70s the police would sometimes create a police riot.  Main stream news always paints another picture.  Right now the police are heavily militarized.  The use of rubber bullets is horrible.    During the republican convention in NYC in 2004 alot of people were arrested for just protesting.

15 Years Ago, Protesters Took Over NYC During 2004 Republican National Convention

A strange, existential drama unfolded. We couldn't leave even though we weren't charged with anything. We were told to stand still or sit down – that included little old ladies out walking their dogs and restaurant take-out guys. Cops on bicycles appeared and handcuffed us, while menacing riot police glowered from the corners. I can still remember bystanders waiting to see what would happen next, counseling us that if we all behaved, the cops would eventually let us go. It was all a terrific error, a case of mistaken identities. Good luck with that. What happened next defies imagination. Over a thousand people from all over the city were deposited at a pier, an old bus terminal, on the West Side and hustled in to a large fenced-in area with two benches and toilets for four…. Oil and gasoline was spilled everywhere on the floor; a sign announcing the presence of asbestos hung from the ceiling in plain view. We had nowhere to sit, to sleep. If we begged for food, we were given an apple. Our belongings were confiscated; we hadn't been charged with a crime. As the hours passed, more and more arrestees were brought in, we found friends, made new ones. Men and women mixed freely, something rather obviously against the rules. Years ago there was a 30-second video of the scene made on someone's cell phone on YouTube. I don't know if it's still around.

It turned out that the NYPD had started spying on protesters in 2003 (and earlier), and the NY Times reported, "[T]eams of undercover New York City police officers traveled to cities across the country, Canada and Europe to conduct covert observations of people who planned to protest at the convention, according to police records and interviews. From Albuquerque to Montreal, San Francisco to Miami, undercover New York police officers attended meetings of political groups, posing as sympathizers or fellow activists, the records show." There was also a lot of surveillance of protesters during the various rallies and marches—Fuji even lent the NYPD its blimp to capture footage of groups.

Lawsuits were filed against the city and NYPD, claiming that some of the arrests—as well as fingerprinting and surveillance—of protesters, journalists, bystanders and legal observers had been unlawful, and, in 2014, the city agreed to a record $18 million settlement. A federal judge had ruled that the arrests were illegal. While referring to hundreds of arrests during a protest on August 31st, 2004, which spanned from the World Trade Center to Madison Square Garden, Judge Richard Sullivan wrote, "No matter the circumstances, an arresting officer must believe that every individual arrested personally violated the law. The Fourth Amendment does not recognize guilt by association."

i was at the famous violent anti vietnam protest/riot in london in the 70s and was on many womens marches

i found many policemen very civil and in full control of themselves – but just the same as the protesters, there are individuals who become over-excited and full of their own importance and become out of physical control

as i have got older i am aware it is much easier to lose control when young – and many young people do not do physical jobs that involve the best use of young energy

i prefer peaceful protest but this is for me the funniest thing that happened on a women's march

a bearded gentleman was standing at the side of oxford street with a placard that read – what's the good of a peaceful protest – so a friend of mine – tiny little woman – went up to him and punched him in the face

don't get me wrong – me pacifist – but she was acting out – one could get aggressive but we would rather not

      so funny

we all have a right to walk down the street to say how we feel about things – out in the open – where other people can see and hear

but what is wrong is feeling so righteous that other people have to do as you say

having been terrorised by both men, women and even groups of children because i am different, or because i have my own mind and feel it is right for me to exercise that right, to exist on the planet and go about my business causing no harm to anyone – i find it astounding that many people feel they know what is best for me

      bah bloody humbug!!!

China Is Harvesting DNA From Millions of People. Is This the Future of Policing? – DNyuz
For several years now, the police and other authorities in China have been collecting across the country DNA samples from millions of men and boys who aren’t suspected of having committed any crime.
In a report published by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute last month, we exposed the extent of the Chinese government’s program of genetic surveillance: It no longer is limited to Xinjiang, Tibet and other areas mostly populated by ethnic minorities the government represses; DNA collection — serving no apparent immediate need — has spread across the entire country. We estimate that the authorities’ goal is to gather the DNA samples of 35 million to 70 million Chinese males.
… In other countries, including the United States, law enforcement authorities are also pushing the ethical boundaries of genetic data collection.
The police in New York routinely collect DNA samples from people they arrest or simply question — sometimes without saying. Across the United States, police officers search private ancestry sites like GEDmatch scouring genetic data looking for potential leads in cold cases — also without the knowledge or the consent of the people who uploaded their personal information.
Earlier this year, the Trump administration put in place a program requiring Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to collect with mouth swabs DNA samples from people in their custody and add that information to the FBI’s DNA database.
Global norms around how to handle genomic data are unsettled, and against that shifting background, the actions of superpowers like China and the United States are likely to set dangerous precedents for other states.
