We’ll need to mitigate and adapt to global warming to avoid massive costs from sea level rise.
Ocean waters are rising because of global warming. They are rising for two reasons. First, and perhaps most obvious, ice is melting. There is a tremendous amount of ice locked away in Greenland, Antarctica, and in glaciers. As the world warms, that ice melts and the liquid water flows to the oceans.
The other reason why water is rising is that warmer water is less dense – it expands. This expansion causes the surface of the water to rise.
What The Science Says:
Peer-reviewed research, physics, and math all tell us that a grand solar minimum would have no more than a 0.3°C cooling effect, barely enough to put a dent in human-caused global warming.

As climate scientists predicted, glaciers are vanishing due to rapidly warming temperatures.
With global warming, we can make predictions and then take measurements to test those predictions. One prediction (a pretty obvious one) is that a warmer world will have less snow and ice. In particular, areas that have year-round ice and snow will start to melt.
Alpine glaciers are large bodies of ice that can be formed high in mountains, typically in bowls called cirques. The ice slowly flows downwards, pulled by gravity, and is renewed in their upper regions. A sort of balance can occur where the loss of ice by melting or flowing at the bottom is equal to the gain of snow and ice by precipitation.
As the Earth warms, the melt line moves upwards so that the glacier melts faster and faster at the bottom, shortening the glacier and reducing its mass. Ultimately, the melted water flows into streams and rivers and ends up in the oceans, contributing to accelerating sea level rise.
SYDNEY, Australia — An underwater heat wave that damaged huge sections of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef two years ago spurred a die-off of coral so severe that scientists say the natural wonder will never look the same again.
Scientists said nearly one-third of the reef’s coral were killed when ocean temperatures spiked in 2016, a result of global warming, according to a study published Wednesday in the journal Nature.
The damage to the reef, one of the world’s largest living structures, has also radically altered the mix of its coral species, scientists said.
“The reef is changing faster than anyone thought it would,” said Terry P. Hughes, the lead author of the study and the director of a government-funded center for coral reef studies at James Cook University in Queensland.

Mr. Griffin claims to be against climate engineering, if this is so, why is he helping to completely discredit this most critical cause with speakers that completely deny the issue? Why is it so imperative to expose this kind of blatantly false disinformation, and all those involved with it? When I publicly documented the fact that Mr. Griffin's upcoming event will completely undermine the anti-climate engineering cause (on which all of our futures depend), Mr. Griffin promptly challenged me to debate the issue with himself and his "experts" (Lord Monckton and Tim Ball). I contacted the only radio show host who has previously interviewed all the parties involved: myself, Mr. Griffin, Tim Ball, and Lord Monckton. This radio host is Jeff Rense, who is well known and respected in the alternative news community. Jeff's previous unbiased interviews of all the individuals in question is a clear reflection of his unbiased position. On Tuesday, November 22nd, Mr. Rense sent the following message to G Edward Griffin.

Tim Ball has been called "the lie that just won't die" for good reason. Ball's trail of disinformation has been well documented by numerous sources. An international radio show host (Vinny Eastwood) once invited Mr. Ball to debate the geoengineering issue with me on a live radio broadcast, Mr. Ball refused. He denies the reality of the issue, as does Mr. "Lord" Monckton. Individuals like Monckton and Ball are simply paid props in a rapidly disintegrating disinformation theater. There are more featured "experts" that are apparently pushing the "global warming is a hoax" disinformation, but you get the idea (again, denial of the true state of the climate greatly harms the fight to expose and halt climate engineering). Who is the head of the coming disinformation event? It's Mr. Ed Griffin.
Ed Griffin made the following statement on the record in 2013:
… the planet now is in a cooling stage…global warming is a politically inspired myth…
What has happened since 2013? And was already inarguably happening for many decades before 2013? Anthropogenic activity has continued to inflict immense damage to the planet. This damage is fueling what may already be a runaway greenhouse effect. 2016 will break the global temperature records yet again, beating out the record just broken in 2015 which beat the record from 2014. Ice is at record low levels at the North Pole AND the South Pole.The anthropogenic (human caused) sources of decimation to our biosphere and climate of course includes climate engineering at the top of the list. Mr. Griffin is apparently already receiving emails of criticism from his followers for his ridiculously false position in regard to the state of the climate. Griffin actually just published one such message that stated "Griffin, you've got it wrong, climate change is real". Ed seems have been motivated to publish this criticism because he was proud of his answer to critic who had expressed justifiable concern about sea level rise submerging islands. What was Mr. Griffin's answer?

Passengers simmered in Jacuzzis and feasted on gourmet cuisine this summer as the 850-foot cruise ship Crystal Serenity moved through the Northwest Passage.
But in the summer of 1778, when Capt. James Cook tried to find a Western entrance to the route, his men toiled on frost-slicked decks and complained about having to supplement dwindling rations with walrus meat.
The British expedition was halted north of the Bering Strait by "ice which was as compact as a wall and seemed to be 10 or 12 feet high at least," according to the captain's journal. Cook's ships followed the ice edge all the way to Siberia in their futile search for an opening, sometimes guided through fog by the braying of the unpalatable creatures the crew called Sea Horses.
More than two centuries later, scientists are mining meticulous records kept by Cook and his crew for a new perspective on the warming that has opened the Arctic in a way the 18th century explorer could never have imagined.
Working with maps and logs from Cook's voyage and other historical records and satellite imagery, University of Washington mathematician Harry Stern has tracked changes in ice cover in the Chukchi Sea, between Alaska and Russia, over nearly 240 years.
The results, published this month in the journal Polar Geography, confirm the significant shrinkage of the summer ice cap and shed new light on the timing of the transformation. The analysis also extends the historical picture back nearly 75 years, building on previous work with ships' records from the 1850s.
Scientists’ warnings that the rise of the sea would eventually imperil the United States’ coastline are no longer theoretical.
NORFOLK, Va. — Huge vertical rulers are sprouting beside low spots in the streets here, so people can judge if the tidal floods that increasingly inundate their roads are too deep to drive through.
Five hundred miles down the Atlantic Coast, the only road to Tybee Island, Ga., is disappearing beneath the sea several times a year, cutting the town off from the mainland.
And another 500 miles on, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., increased tidal flooding is forcing the city to spend millions fixing battered roads and drains — and, at times, to send out giant vacuum trucks to suck saltwater off the streets.
For decades, as the global warming created by human emissions caused land ice to melt and ocean water to expand, scientists warned that the accelerating rise of the sea would eventually imperil the United States’ coastline.
Now, those warnings are no longer theoretical: The inundation of the coast has begun. The sea has crept up to the point that a high tide and a brisk wind are all it takes to send water pouring into streets and homes.

Climate change projections have vastly underestimated the role that clouds play, meaning future warming could be far worse than is currently projected, according to new research.
Researchers said that a doubling of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere compared with pre-industrial times could result in a global temperature increase of up to 5.3C – far warmer than the 4.6C older models predict.
YELLOWKNIFE, Northwest Territories, Canada, Oct 16 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) – C limate change is taking a heavy economic toll on Canada's far north, with buildings collapsing as melting permafrost destroys foundations, rivers running low and wildfires all a drain on the region's limited finances, senior government officials said.
A sprawling area spanning the Arctic Circle with a population of less than 50,000, Canada's Northwest Territories has spent more than $140 million in the last two years responding to problems linked to global warming, the territory's finance minister said.
"Our budgets are getting squeezed dramatically from climate change," Finance and Environment Minister J. Michael Miltenberger told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
"The roads are constantly moving as the permafrost is melting… massive shore erosion is putting buildings at risk. We have spent hundreds of millions of dollars in the past few years and the tie to climate change is more and more evident."
In this windswept territory, which already relies on central government subsidies, responding to global warming is crucial for its financial survival.
A major U.N. conference in Paris in December will aim to create a new global deal to curb climate change to take effect from 2020.
Scientists want to keep international temperature rises below 2 degrees compared with pre-industrial levels, while providing poor countries with money for adaptation.
But in parts of the Northwest Territories, average temperatures have already risen more than three degrees Celsius from pre-industrial levels, government officials said.
Rapidly thawing permafrost is causing countless roadways to become all but impassible.
"In Paris, we are hoping for whatever it takes to turn this (climate change) around," politician Bob Bromley told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in the territorial capital, Yellowknife.
"It's going to require all hands on deck, and willing hands."
Diesel Dependence
The delicate ecosystem of the wide-skied territory, home to the indigenous Dene people, and where wolves, caribou and bison roam, has been plunged into a environmental vicious cycle.
Climate change has been linked to decreased water levels in the territory's major rivers, partly due to greater evaporation, causing a sharp contraction in hydro electric power generation.
As a result, the government has had to import more diesel, borrowing about $30 million this year alone to make up for the electricity shortfall, hurting its budget and increasing climate-warming emissions in a catastrophic feedback loop.
"It's not sustainable," said Miltenberger, the finance and environment minister.
He called on Canada's national government to provide more financial help for climate change mitigation, particularly in renewable power, to reduce the costs of importing diesel.
With a small population, and high operating costs due to its size and climate, the territory's main employers are diamond mining and the public sector. The region's indigenous people rely on the hunting of caribou as a key food source, but herds are declining, with climate change likely a significant driver.
Northwest Territories receives financial transfer payments of about $1.3 billion, or about $29,000 per resident, from Canada's national government to run public services.
Craig Scott, executive director of Ecology North, a Yellowknife-based environmental group, believes the government should have invested earlier in renewable energy.
Fuel trucks hauling diesel along gravel roads to small rural communities are a common site across the territory.
Generators have been working around the clock following the decline in hydro power, Scott said, and new holding tanks had to be imported to store the diesel.
"Renewable energies (including) micro hydro, solar and biomass have high capital costs in the short-term," Scott told the Thomson Reuters Foundation. "But they are sustainable versus the long-term pain of diesel."

I want to make one point clear, my goal in highlighting specific facts, charts, and data is primarily to bring attention to the subject of global geoengineering and the damage it is inflicting on the biosphere. Geoengineering is, of course, not the sole source for the climate chaos and atmospheric disintegration that is now unfolding around us (there are countless anthropogenic causal factors), but available data does indicate that geoengineering is likely the single greatest climate disrupting factor of all (in addition to poisoning all life on earth in the process).
When “global cooling” articles and conclusions are embraced by anti-geoengineering activists and websites without proper investigation, these activists and websites are then completely discredited in many circles (especially the science community). The subject of geoengineering goes out the window with the “climate change denial” that cannot be rationally denied at this point if one truly examines hard data. If we are to successfully bring geoengineering to the light of day, we cannot afford such missteps. It is imperative that we all make an effort to pull together, and not open up new battle fronts in directions that are not supported by verifiable information. Buying into the "global cooling" disinformation narrative is exactly what the power structure and the geoengineers want us to do.
One more factor that is extremely important to consider, it appears that all the climate data/temperature records are being radically falsified to the down side. In the areas we have investigated, the “official reading” for a given day is routinely 3, 4, or even 5 degrees below what actually occurred on the ground. This is a massive data skewing factor which helps to hide the true extent of the warming. In addition, “official agencies” like NOAA (NOAA is connected to geoengineering contractor “Raytheon”), and National Weather Service (NWS is connected to geoengineering contractor Lockheed Martin), etc., now appear to be recording many more temperature readings from a given “cold” event as compared to “heat wave” areas of the same land mass. This skews the data to the down side even further. On top of all this, let's add the “geoengineering” factor, artificial/chemical ice nucleation, jet stream manipulation, etc., which can and does create temporary cooling anomalies from which the agencies above take an abundance of temp readings in the attempt to lower the overall temperature picture.
It is imperative for each of us to consider the entire data picture before leaping at conclusions. None of this is about “Al Gore” or carbon credit scams, but rather it's about a harsh and verifiable reality. Any conclusions must consider the massive data altering and even more the global geoengineering programs and their effects. Are there really over 31,000 climate scientists who say there is no anthropogenic global warming? Well, not exactly. Even if we only consider the overall warming effects caused by the climate engineering insanity, isn’t that a human caused factor? Isn’t climate engineering a source of “anthropogenic” global warming ? The same activists that are posting completely fact-less and false articles are also apparently denying the effects of the climate engineering they claim to be fighting against (like the completely engineered snowstorms), why is this? If we want the credibility to win this fight, we must stand on solid ground, the article below should be an eye opener for those that swallowed the “31,000 Scientists Deny Global Warming” headline in question without investigation. The world’s upper oceans may have stored far more heat from the warming climate than previously thought, according to a new study that purports to provide the first rough estimate of the amount of heat researchers have missed in their attempts to measure changes on the oceans’ heat content.
Sea level rise is accelerating. The number of large wildfires is growing. Dangerous heat waves are becoming more common. Extreme storm events are increasing in many areas. More severe droughts are occurring in others.
These are just some of the consequences of global warming, which are already having significant and harmful effects on our health, our environment, and our communities.
Unless we take immediate action to address global warming, these consequences will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly, and increasingly affect the entire planet — including you, your community, and your family.
Global warming is happening now.
The planet’s temperature is rising. The trend is clear and unmistakable.
Every one of the past 37 years has been warmer than the 20th century average. The 12 warmest years on record have all occurred since 1998. 2012 was the hottest year ever recorded for the contiguous United States.
Globally, the average surface temperature has increased more than one degree Fahrenheit since the late 1800s. Most of that increase has occurred over just the past three decades.
We are the cause.
We are overloading our atmosphere with carbon dioxide, which traps heat and steadily drives up the planet’s temperature. Where does all this carbon come from? The fossil fuels we burn for energy — coal, natural gas, and oil — plus the loss of forests due to deforestation, especially in the tropics.
The scientific evidence is clear.
Within the scientific community, there is no debate: An overwhelming majority of climate scientists agree that global warming is happening and that human activity is the primary cause.
This broad consensus — and the extensive scientific evidence that supports it — is often downplayed or distorted by a small but vocal minority of special interests that have a vested interest in delaying action on climate change.
We have a choice.
We can act now to reduce our carbon emissions, slow the pace of global warming, and pass on a safer, healthier world to our children. Or we can choose to do nothing, continue pumping massive amounts of carbon into an already overloaded atmosphere, and suffer the increasingly costly consequences.

Global climate engineering encompasses many different aspects and processes. The consequences of the climate engineering insanity are already unquantifiable and growing by the day. Though each aspect of this subject is more than enough for an in depth article, there is often a need for more of an overall summary to pass on to those that are not aware of the broader picture.
What Major Factor Causing "Climate Change" Are They Not Telling Us About?
More alarming articles and studies are surfacing each day which confirm the rapidly changing state of Earth's life support systems and climate. Humanity has decimated the planet in countless ways and the repercussions are becoming catastrophic. Though there are certainly many parts to this unfolding story, the largest piece of the puzzle by far still goes completely unacknowledged by the entire scientific community and all of the main stream media / corporate / military / industrial complex. The massive elephant in the room has been, and still is, "stratospheric aerosol geoengineering" (SAG), AKA "solar radiation management" (SRM).
The human race continues to hurtle toward total disaster on countless fronts, but, unfortunately, for many the shiny distractions of industrialized and militarized society are still too alluring to turn away from. Many claim agencies like NOAA are lying about the state of the climate, but is NOAA actually overstating the severity of climate collapse? Or is NOAA's narrative (which completely omits the climate engineering assault) a gross underestimate of how serious the situation is? How horrific does the weather whiplash have to become before the alarm bells of the masses go off? Will there be a “blue ocean” (ice free) event in the Arctic by September, 2018? Climate scientists are used to seeing the range of weather extremes stretched by global warming but few episodes appear as remarkable as this week's unusual heat over the Arctic.
Zack Labe, a researcher at the University of California at Irvine, said average daily temperatures above the northern latitude of 80 degrees have broken away from any previous recordings in the past 60 years.
"To have zero degrees at the North Pole in February – it's just wrong," said Amelie Meyer, a researcher of ice-ocean interactions with the Norwegian Polar Institute. "It's quite worrying."
The so-called Polar Vortex – a zone of persistient low-pressure that typically keeps high-latitude cold air separate from regions further south – has been weakening for decades.
In this instance, "a massive jet of warm air" is penetrating north, sending a cold burst southwards, said Dr Meyer, who has relocated to Hobart to research on the southern hemisphere, and is hosted by Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies.

The buildup of heat-trapping greenhouse gases is warming the upper ocean four times faster than during the period 1960-1990, according to new research.
The paper, published today in the journal Science Advances, is the latest effort to piece together current and historical measurements from ships, self-propelled floats, satellites and even seals to get a global picture of how the oceans are faring under rising temperatures.
Since the 1990s, more heat is finding its way to the deep ocean and there has been no change of pace in ocean warming since 1998, compared with the previous decade, the paper notes.
The study marks a step forward, but the authors say they are concerned about the future of ocean science, given the political climate in the US. Dr John Abraham, professor of thermal sciences at the University of St Thomas in Minnesota and co-author on the paper, tells Carbon Brief:
“We are seeing dramatic cuts planned for climate science. There is every reason to expect these cuts will include ocean-sensing systems.”
